ABOUT

The South Cape Section is the youngest of the 14 sections of the Mountain Club in South Africa. It all started in 1999 when a small group of "die hard" mountaineers who retired in the Garden Route, joined forces to explore the mountains of the area seldom visited by other Sections. They were soon joined by other retired mountaineers in the area as well as new members who shared their love for the mountains and the great outdoors.

The group grew sufficiently large by July 2005 to warrant application to the Central Committee to form a New Section. This was approved and the South Cape group was awarded full Section status in September 2005.

OBJECTIVES

The main objective of the Mountain Club may be summed up as: To practice, encourage and further the interests of mountaineering. The MCSA offers mountaineering, climbing and hiking opportunities to its members.

It provides access to mountainous areas and is involved in mountain rescue, training and conservation activities. These in turn promote fellowship among people with the same interests.

A specific objective of the South Cape Section is to access, conserve and enjoy our local mountain ranges by fostering relationships with local controlling bodies and private land owners.
